That the Parliament recognises the 10th anniversary of Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign, a global initiative to promote equality, inclusion and visibility for LGBTQ+ people in sport; further recognises that, since 2013, over one million people, from national team football captains to sporting fans across the world, have laced up to show that they believe that sport should be everyone’s game, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ athletes, coaches, fans and volunteers across various sports worldwide; understands that, despite significant gains, there is still much to do to make LGBTQ+ people feel welcome in sport and to ensure that discriminatory language and abuse is eliminated from the pitch, the sidelines, the terraces, and from social media, across grassroots and professional sports; commends all sports players who have made the move to come out about their sexuality in public life, with a view to creating positive role models for young sporting fans and participants; understands that Stonewall’s key message in 2023 is "Lace Up to Keep It Up", to ensure that over the next decade all of the LGBTQ+ community can be themselves while attending or participating in sporting events, and notes that, on 6 December 2023, Stonewall called on everyone, from athletes to supporters, to celebrate Rainbow Laces Day by wearing their Rainbow Laces to make a statement that everyone, regardless of identity, should be able to access sport and thrive through the numerous positive benefits that sporting activity provides.
