Housing Planning

Petitioner: Ronald Morrison

Status:
Lodged

Date Lodged: 09 September 2019

Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to ensure that—

  • financial viability studies are conducted on listed buildings requiring restoration and/or maintenance,
  • responsibility of ownership is established for this work and;
  • financial assistance is provided where listed buildings are at risk of falling into disrepair.

Petition History:

SPICe Briefing (107KB pdf)

Summary

19 September 2019: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government. It also agreed to write to COSLA, Historic Environment Scotland, the Royal Town Planning Institute and Built Environment Forum Scotland.  Official Report of Meeting 19 September 2019

Formal listing should be accompanied by a viability statement. Do you agree?

Too many listed buildings are being left too long whereby they fall into a state of disrepair far beyond the condition they would have been in had they been subjected to a maintenance plan.

All buildings should be maintained to an acceptable standard, plus owners should be liable if this is not done.
