6 September 2011: The Committee took evidence from Ian Robb, Vice-Chairman, Help for Abandoned Animals; Dr Alison Kennedy, Chair, Perthshire Abandoned Dogs Society; Lisa Hird, Treasurer, Staffordshire Rescue Scotland and agreed to write to the Scottish Government, Scottish Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue, Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Canine Concern Scotland Trust, National Dog Warden Association, Dogs Trust and a selection of local authorities (Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, Aberdeen) seeking responses to points raised in the petition and during the discussion. Link to Official Report of 6 September 2011 (483KB pdf)

24 October 2012: The Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee made its decision to close the petition given the work completed to date by the PPC, the legislation already in place in Scotland, and the clearly stated position of both the Scottish Government and COSLA. In closing the petition, the Committee agreed to write to COSLA, encouraging them to use the legislation that is available to them, and to the Scottish Government to inform them of the Committee’s decision.
