Ghost Orchid, 2012

Siobhan Healy (b. 1976, Glasgow)

This glass work is inspired by the fragility of the rare wild flower species Ghost Orchid (Epipogium aphyllum). The artist specialises in making glass work about rare wild plant species and the preservation and documentation of plant specimens.

The Ghost Orchid, previously declared extinct for over twenty years, was sighted again in 2009. The discovery was initially kept secret but is now widely celebrated by the botanical community.
