The council has recently announced a further extension, beyond June 2024, to the exemption for some taxis, where the operators can demonstrate a commitment to retrofitting their vehicles or purchasing compliant replacement vehicles.
In February, the Minister for Energy and the Environment said that “other sources of funding for tree planting”—Official Report, 1 February 2024; c 9. would be increased to make up for the savage £32 million cut to the forestry grant scheme.
That would put us back on track for 2023 to be a record year, but the potential for 2024 is greater. Unfortunately, as Emma Harper pointed out, the reduced funding from the Westminster Tory Government means that the situation will be challenging.
