Scottish Crofting Federation_supplementary evidence to Land Reform Scotland Bill 17 February 2025

From a crofting perspective, we suggest the following considerations to be included: - Locations suitable for the creation of new tenanted crofts including woodland crofts - Sites for additional rural housing - Sites of community interest - Potential locations for community facilities including local food processing and sale of local produce - Information on any holiday lets and second homes (owned by the landowner and by third parties) - Considerations on how local circular economies can be strengthened - Management arrangements for deer, geese, and any other species requiring management - Information about the spatial boundaries of common grazings - Contact details of existing grazings committees - Information about land that has been resumed from common grazings or is part of a scheme for development - Information on land management schemes and agreements (such as AECS) - Information on any projects registered with the woodland carbon code, the peatland carbon code, or other market mechanisms for ecosystem services We do welcome the Commission’s proposal on extending the range of actors who can report breaches and we think it is crucial that landowners must demonstrate how they act upon community consultation, and how their conduct aligns with local place plans.
