The Executive through sportscotland provides financial and other support to athletes and governing bodies of sport as part of our commitment to achieving target 7 of Sport 21, which aims to have over 250 Scots as medallists on the world stage by 2007.

To ask the Scottish Executive what the total cost was of the prosecution of Jim Sutherland of Carfraemill Lodge in respect of offences under the Beef Bones Regulations 1997 including all costs incurred until conclusion of the case on 7 December 1999. It is not possible to calculate the total cost of this prosecution.
The new support will take the form of bursaries for young and mature students and additional loans for young students; it will be for Scots studying in Scotland and will come into force this autumn for new students.
