The Committee launched a call for written views on 14 May 2015. The call for views closed on 24 June 2015.

On 17 September the member in charge of the Bill, Dr Richard Simpson MSP, wrote to the Committee in response to the written submissions.

On 26 October 2015 the Committee visited a series of presentations on a range of initiatives aimed at encouraging the safe consumption of alcohol in the Newcastle area. The Committee also had a site visit to the Denton area with a local police sergeant to discuss how some of the initiatives operated in the local community.

On 2 November 2015 the Committee received a memorandum from the Scottish Government to assist consideration.
