Skye-based Palliative Care Partnership

  • Submitted by: Rhoda Grant, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 21 September 2015
  • Motion reference: S4M-14325
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament recognises the work of the palliative care partnership in Skye between Boots, Macmillan Palliative Care (MPC) and NHS Highland; understands that this is a unique rural-based service that enables people from Skye and Lochalsh to access the specialist services of MPC's rural pharmacists through Boots’ store in Portree; believes that recent research by the University of Strathclyde highlights the progress that is being made by the partnership in providing tailored medical advice and support; welcomes what it sees as the collaborative work between Boots and Macmillan across Scotland through the use of cancer information pharmacists; understands that many consider that the Skye partnership can serve as a model of best practice for patient care throughout the country, particularly in other rural areas, and notes the hope that it will continue to be maintained in the future so that it can be of benefit to its service users.
