Epilepsy Scotland's Thunderclap Campaign

  • Submitted by: Bob Doris, Glasgow, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 25 March 2014
  • Motion reference: S4M-09476

That the Parliament commends Epilepsy Scotland on its efforts to raise global awareness of epilepsy; understands that epilepsy affects 50 million people worldwide and that the condition is widely misunderstood; notes that Epilepsy Scotland offers practical and emotional support to people with epilepsy and that 26 March 2014 is Purple Day, which it considers a unique global opportunity to raise epilepsy awareness and help reduce stigma and discrimination; recognises Epilepsy Scotland's social media campaign to "turn Scotland purple" for the day, in which local landmarks are to be immersed in violet, starting with the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and Oban’s McCaig’s Tower, and calls on social media users to support the Thunderclap campaign on Twitter and Facebook to spread awareness of Purple Day.
