That the Parliament congratulates Capital Credit Union on its ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations, having been established in June 1989 and going on to become one of the largest credit unions in the UK, with almost 23,000 members and assets of £33 million; notes that membership is open to, among others, anyone living or working in the east of Scotland, including Midlothian and the Scottish Borders; believes that credit unions such as this have an important role in providing ethical financial services and reducing people’s reliance on such things as payday loans and doorstep lenders, which often charge extremely high interest rates, particularly for those on low incomes who may have difficulties accessing basic banking services, and wishes all at Capital Credit Union all the best for the next 30 years and beyond.
