Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2020

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 29 January 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-20646

That the Parliament notes the publication of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) 2020 by Scotland’s chief statistician; understands that, in Glasgow, 44% of the population live in the 20% most deprived areas in Scotland; recognises that the figure of 44% is a fall from 48% from SIMD 2016, however, further recognises that Glasgow still has the second highest percentage of local share of deprived areas in Scotland; believes that, while the Scottish Government’s new benefits will help to reduce deprivation, as will continued urban regeneration through the likes of Clyde Gateway, there is yet still much more work to be done, and considers that Scottish, UK and council budget spending should be allocated according to need.
