80th Anniversary of the Founding of St Nicholas Sighthill Parish Church

  • Submitted by: Gordon MacDonald, Edinburgh Pentlands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 12 August 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-18491

That the Parliament celebrates the 80th anniversary of the founding of St Nicholas Sighthill Parish Church; understands the parish was established in 1939 and that the present church building was opened 1957, which quickly became known as the Children’s Church due to part of the initial funding being raised by Sunday Schools around Scotland and overseas, and that, in recognition of this, the name St Nicholas, the Patron Saint of Children, was given to the church; notes that the church is sited on the west side of Edinburgh, at the junction of Wester Hailes Road and Calder Road, and serves the four areas of Bankhead, the Calders, Parkhead and Sighthill, and praises the minister, Dr Tom Kisitu, and the St Nicholas Church leaders for being a positive and welcoming presence for all in the community.

Regarding this motion, is it possible to amend the text to include another area? I missed it out.   Change from “…and serves the three areas of Parkhead, Sighthill and the Calders, and…” to “…and serves the four areas of Bankhead, the Calders, Parkhead, and Sighthill, and…”
