Charity Lottery Reform

  • Submitted by: Miles Briggs, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 03 April 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-16773

That the Parliament supports the UK Government’s preferred option of a £100 million annual sales limit for charity lotteries; considers that this new limit will allow such lotteries to reduce bureaucracy and administration costs and therefore return more to good causes; understands that such a limit was recommended by the Gambling Commission and has the support of many charities and voluntary sector organisations, including in Lothian; believes that setting the limit at £100 million will future-proof it for the decade ahead; hopes that the UK Government will be able to implement the new limit as soon as possible, and believes that this will benefit charities and voluntary sector organisations across the country.
