Aberdeenshire West Father Builds His Own Boat for Children's Charity Challenge

  • Submitted by: Alexander Burnett, Aberdeenshire West, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 21 March 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-16470

That the Parliament commends Peter Rhodes for beginning his construction of a craft to brave the dangers of the Atlantic Ocean as he aims to become the first person to complete a row across the ocean in a self-made boat; notes that he aims to raise £50,000 for the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital following its staff playing a significant role in 2018 in saving his newborn son's life, who was later flown to Glasgow for emergency heart surgery; understands that the money is being raised through the Grampian Health Board Endowment Fund, which will be used to provide additional amenities for the children’s hospital's patients and staff, as well as to fund research and equipment, and wishes Peter good luck as he looks ahead to his 2,000-mile nautical challenge in a year's time.
