That the Parliament commends the Data Lab on its Women in Data Science event on 11 March 2019, which is sponsored by Mudano and aims to bring together female data science professionals with young women and schoolgirls to raise awareness of the opportunities that exist in this growing field; recognises that the event forms part of DataFest19, the UK’s first two-week festival of data innovation; notes that the mathematician and science presenter, Dr Hannah Fry, is to address attendees on her own experiences in getting a career in the STEM sector; understands that the event will also feature the final of the Cyber Treasure Hunt, which has been underway at schools across Scotland since November 2018, challenging S2 schoolgirls to use their problem-solving skills to crack codes; congratulates the Turing’s Testers, who are a group of S6 schoolgirls at St Kentigern’s Academy in Bathgate, who created this competition, and wishes all involved with the event well in inspiring the next generation of female data scientists.
