Parliament Conveners Group to question First Minister on legislative programme

The Scottish Parliament’s Conveners Group will question the First Minister following her recent statement on the Government’s legislative programme.

The meeting, which will take place on Wednesday 30 September, will be open to members of the public and will feature questions from the Conveners of the Parliament’s Committees to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

This will be the third time that the Conveners Group has questioned the First Minister on the Government’s legislative programme.

The meeting will be chaired by Presiding Officer, the Rt. Hon Tricia Marwick MSP.

Speaking ahead of the session, Mrs Marwick said:

“The Committees of the Parliament exist to hold the Government to account on behalf of the people of Scotland.

“Whilst our MSPs do this week in week out, this session will allow Conveners to question the First Minister on the broader themes of the Government’s legislative programme.”

The session will be open to members of the public and will take place at 12.30pm on Wednesday 30 September. Tickets can be reserved by contacting Visitor Services on [email protected] / 0131 348 5200 or freephone 0800 092 7600. You can also watch this session live on Scottish Parliament TV.

The Conveners Group is chaired by the Presiding Officer or a Deputy Presiding Officer and is a forum where Committee Conveners meet to take a strategic view on the operation of committees and to facilitate liaison between the Committees, the Parliamentary Bureau and the Scottish Parliament Corporate Body.

The Group handles a range of matters including:

  • promotion of practices to improve the performance of committees, in particular their scrutiny function; and
  • making recommendations to the Bureau on Committee business to be scheduled in the Chamber.
