During her visit to Pittsburgh as part of the Parliament's Scotland Week programme, the Presiding Officer the Rt Hon Tricia Marwick MSP, right, was presented with a Centennial Commemorative Medal by Sybil Veeder, Chair of the Executive committee of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.
In 2004, the Carnegie Hero Fund of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, struck a limited run of 500 'Centennial Commemorative Medals' to mark the 100th anniversary of its founding by Andrew Carnegie on April 15 1904. The medal presented to the Presiding Officer is number 413.
The Commission recognises civilian heroism throughout the US and Canada and the commemorative medal duplicates the features of the 2004 Carnegie Medal. The medal was presented to the Presiding Officer in recognition of the Parliament's support of its work and developing links between the Carnegie institutions, Scotland and its Parliament.
