Question
To ask the Scottish Government how many affordable homes have been built in each year since 2016-17, and what information it has regarding how this compares with (a) England and (b) Wales.

The following table shows the number of affordable homes delivered in each year and a comparison of affordable homes delivered for Scotland, England and Wales as a rate per 10,000 population. Numbers of homes include new build, off the shelf purchases and rehabilitations.

Figures relating to completions in England and Wales for 2020-21, April to end September, are unavailable at this time.
The table shows that the rate of affordable homes delivered per 10,000 population has been higher in Scotland than in both England and Wales in each year across the period from 2016-17 to 2019-20.
The 9,286 affordable homes completed in Scotland in the latest financial year 2019-20 equates to a rate of 17.0 homes delivered per 10,000 population. This is above the rate of 10.2 in England and the rate of 11.3 in Wales.
Scottish Government affordable housing statistics for the full financial year (2020-21) are planned to be published in June 2021, with an exact publication date to be pre-announced closer to the time.
