Question

To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to promote the employment of physician associates within the NHS.

Answer

While the Scottish Government provides funding and strategic direction to NHS Scotland, individual Health Boards are responsible for determining the mix of professional roles within their workforce that best meets the healthcare needs of their local population.

Promotion of individual professions is a matter for the relevant professional bodies, and representation on the project planning board established by the General Medical Council to develop the statutory regulatory framework for Physician Associates includes medical Royal Colleges, deaneries, professional associations and other key stakeholders.
