Ardrossan Accies’ U15 Rugby Team Win League Title in Year of Club’s Centenary

  • Submitted by: Kenneth Gibson, Cunninghame North, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 24 January 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-02879

That the Parliament congratulates Ardrossan Academicals Rugby Football Club’s boys U15 Rugby Team on winning their league undefeated, following a 31-7 victory against Renfrewshire Raiders; believes that manager Ali Cairns’ team dominated the physical game, not least due to the contribution of Man of the Match, Ronnie Robertson, who secured the win with a well-taken try after chasing his own kick downfield; understands that the team will now compete in the cup competition, which runs through winter and spring, and that they aim to repeat their success in the league; considers that Ardrossan Academicals RFC has provided sporting facilities to the local community since 1922, and currently has a range of men's, women's and junior rugby teams; notes that the club recently received funding of £34,832.00 from the SUEZ Communities Trust, through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund; understands that the funds will contribute towards the cost of replacing the pitch floodlights, which are currently inadequate, with new units that use LED lights, and that this will make them more energy efficient, will future-proof them, and allow the pitch area to be fully lit and increase safety, and wishes all players, coaches and volunteers at Ardrossan Accies the best in their future endeavours.
