Ballantrae Becomes South Ayrshire’s First Biosphere Community

That the Parliament recognises and congratulates Ballantrae on becoming South Ayrshire’s first Biosphere Community; notes that Ballantrae is the sixth community to be given Biosphere status within the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, and the first in South Ayrshire; understands that UNESCO makes its awards in recognition of attributes that are unique and of global importance; considers that Ballantrae occupies a scenic location on the biosphere’s west coast, with a diverse range of both sea and bird life; understands that Ballantrae residents regularly promote local life and culture, by conducting spotlight forest walks among the giant redwoods at Glenapp Castle; further understands that Ballantrae residents have committed to six charter principles that cover sustainability and promote green enterprise; considers that Ballantrae is now a blueprint for living that will help drive South West Scotland’s green recovery and progress towards net zero goals, and wishes Ballantrae and its residents well as they aim to improve Scottish life and nature.
