Time to Talk Day 2022

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 13 January 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-02766

That the Parliament welcomes Time to Talk day 2022, which takes place on 3 February, and is the day on which friends, families, communities, and workplaces come together to talk, listen and change lives; understands that it will see all four of the UK's anti-stigma programmes get together to challenge discrimination by encouraging people everywhere to have conversations, and that this is led in Scotland by See Me with SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health); believes that a small conversation about mental health has the power to make a big difference and that it is something that everyone can do; considers that small gestures can make a big difference, even when people have to be socially-distanced; applauds the work of the country's many mental health organisations, such as See Me and SAMH, which aim to support communities up and down the country in 2022 to have more mental health conversations than ever before; believes that talking about mental health reduces stigma, which helps to create supportive communities where people can talk openly about mental health and feel empowered to seek help when it is needed, and encourages everyone to take a look at the charities’ online resources and activity packs and to start up mental health conversations with friends, neighbours, family, colleagues or whoever they believe it will make a difference to.
