Less Survivable Cancers Awareness Day

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 12 January 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-02753

That the Parliament recognises that 11 January is Less Survivable Cancers Awareness Day; acknowledges the work of the Less Survivable Cancers Taskforce in raising awareness of six of the less survivable cancers; understands that over 9,000 patients are diagnosed every year and that, sadly, only 16% of patients diagnosed will survive for five years, as diagnosis can be difficult due to vague or non-specific symptoms; welcomes what it sees as the Scottish Government's leadership, and applauds all campaigners who continue to raise awareness of less survivable cancers and who aim to make a difference by encouraging people to see their GPs and have screening for early detection if they have a worrying symptom, helping to save thousands of lives through greater awareness of symptoms.
