Bute Island Foods Celebrates New Listings with Asda

  • Submitted by: Jenni Minto, Argyll and Bute, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 20 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02615

That the Parliament congratulates Bute Island Foods, which has secured an exclusive contract to supply a plant-based cheeseboard to Asda; understands that the plant-based cheeseboard includes blue cheese, mature cheddar, and cranberry wensleydale alternatives, as well as a version of jalapeno and chilli cheddar that has been newly-developed for Asda; notes that this will broaden Asda’s festive meal choices for vegans and that it builds on the listing that Bute Island Foods already has with Asda to stock its dairy-free cheese and ice cream; recognises that family-run Bute Island Foods has been making vegan and free-from cheese alternatives since it was established in 1994, and has enjoyed rapid growth on the back of rising demand for plant-based foods; welcomes that Bute Island Foods now employs 175 people; further recognises that Bute Island Foods is rapidly growing to meet the increase in demand for its multi-award-winning products and that this contract is an important indication of its ongoing innovative partnership with Asda; acknowledges that Bute Island Foods is the perfect example of how Asda is able to support and nurture the businesses of Scottish producers, and wishes Bute Island Foods every success for the future.
