Demolition of Longannet Power Station Chimney

  • Submitted by: Mark Ruskell, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 08 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02502

That the Parliament notes the historic demolition of what it sees as the iconic 600ft chimney at Longannet Power Station; considers that this is a significant milestone in the journey to net zero and phasing-out coal, following the closure of Longannet in 2016; thanks the workers for their years of service at the plant and their important contribution towards meeting Scotland's energy needs, and agrees with the view that lessons must be learnt from Longannet to inform the design and implementation of a worker- and community-led Just Transition.
