Point and Sandwick Trust

  • Submitted by: Ariane Burgess, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Green Party.

  • Motion reference: S6M-02501

That the Parliament congratulates the Point and Sandwick Trust for distributing £700,000 to local organisations on the Isle of Lewis and the wider Western Isles, from the income in connection with the community wind farm; recognises the difficulties that they have endured as a result of the broken sea cable connecting Lewis and Harris to the main grid; celebrates that the wind farm at Beinn Grideag is now operational, which is reportedly the largest community-owned wind farm in the UK; calls for increased support and enhanced infrastructure to enable the establishment of more community-owned wind farms in Scotland, and celebrates that one of the projects to receive funding from the initiative involves primary school children across Lewis planting trees in their school gardens.
