  • Submitted by: Foysol Choudhury, Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 13 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02492

That the Parliament congratulates all those who participated in the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) election and congratulates the winners; notes that 11 new Members of the SYP will now represent young people in Edinburgh, seven of whom are young women and three from a BME background; further notes that Edinburgh registered the highest number of expressions of interest in Scotland from potential candidates; understands that it fielded 26 candidates, which was the most of any local authority, and achieved the highest voter turnout in Edinburgh since 2015; congratulates Elizabeth Sophia Callaghan and Katie Alice Dobson on their election as MSYPs for the constituency of Edinburgh Western, and Madiha Choudhury on her election as MSYP for the constituency of Edinburgh Northern and Leith, and acknowledges that the SYP is a democratically-elected voice of Scotland’s young people and provides a platform for young people to discuss important issues and act on them.
