City Status for Livingston

  • Submitted by: Foysol Choudhury, Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 09 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02472

That the Parliament welcomes the bid by West Lothian Council, working in partnership with local companies, councillors and community planning partners, for Livingston, West Lothian’s largest town, to be given city status, by entering the Platinum Jubilee Civic Honours competition; recognises this opportunity to highlight what it sees as the growth and strengths of Livingston, since its formation in 1962 as a new town, envisioned then as a garden city; believes that city status will bring further economic, leisure, retail, community and social benefits to Livingston, and to West Lothian more generally; commends the partnership approach taken by West Lothian Council and the commitment to full community engagement throughout the process, and wishes all of those involved success in their endeavours.
