  • Motion reference: S6M-02391

That the Parliament sends its warmest congratulations to the pupils at New Abbey Primary School in Dumfries, in particular those in classes 1 to 3, who have recently been awarded the Youth and Education Award from the RSPB Nature of Scotland Awards 2021; recognises the marvellous work carried out by Ellaine Monk, the principal teacher, in encouraging the children to improve their awareness of their local environment, the importance of protecting it and devising ways of encouraging wildlife into the school grounds by providing a safe haven for nature; acknowledges that the school was one of two in the region to be shortlisted in this category before being chosen as the winner; praises the role played by New Abbey Primary in promoting outdoor learning; sincerely hopes that other education establishments in Dumfries and Galloway, as well as other schools across Scotland, follow the fine example being set, and wishes the pupils every success in the future as they look at other ways to help their local environment and nature thrive.
