Congratulating Aberdeen Harbour on Receiving £400,000 to Fund a Shore Power Project

  • Submitted by: Liam Kerr, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 22 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02220

That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen Harbour on receiving £400,000 from the Department for Transport to fund a joint demonstration project to provide shore power within the existing north harbour; notes that this project hopes to reduce the port’s emissions by up to 50% through the use of shore power-saving consumption of fuels that otherwise would be used to power vessels while in the port; understands that this grant is part of the UK Government’s £20 million Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition, which was introduced to drive green innovation for maritime and shipping projects; applauds the work being done by Aberdeen Harbour to reduce its fuel consumption and help Scotland reach its net zero requirements, and hopes that this fantastic work can continue into the future.
