Lothians Macmillan Improving the Cancer Journey Service

  • Submitted by: Paul McLennan, East Lothian, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 08 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02001

That the Parliament congratulates Macmillan Cancer Support on the newly launched £2.8 million service across Edinburgh and the Lothians to ensure cancer patients can access all the help they need; notes that the new Lothians Macmillan Improving the Cancer Journey service will see every newly-diagnosed cancer patient in Edinburgh and the Lothians sent a letter offering a meeting with a dedicated one-to-one support worker; understands that the worker will then help the patient to access a wide range of support, from benefits advice and emotional support to help at home, or with other practical needs; welcomes the launch as part of the Transforming Cancer Care partnership between Macmillan and the Scottish Government, which will see every cancer patient receive personalised care by 2023, and applauds Macmillan on its goal of ensuring that everyone in Edinburgh and the Lothians with cancer has someone to call on for help, no matter what they need.
