Women’s Premier League Football in Edinburgh

  • Submitted by: Gordon MacDonald, Edinburgh Pentlands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 06 October 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01522

That the Parliament congratulates Hibernian FC on its decision to throw open the doors of its Easter Road Stadium to host the Women’s Premier League fixture, Hibernian versus Hearts, on 29 September 2021; notes this ground-breaking initiative to support and promote women’s football in Edinburgh was free of charge to fans; understands the match recorded a record-breaking crowd of 5,512 fans; applauds both teams, those on the pitch and behind the scenes, for their part in making this initiative such a success, and believes this goes some way in contributing to supporting and encouraging girls and women into sport at all levels.
