Peter Henshaw's 900-mile Trek

  • Submitted by: Miles Briggs, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 05 October 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01477

That the Parliament congratulates Peter Henshaw on his epic 900-mile trek for Shelter Scotland, raising over £4,000 so far; understands that Peter set off from Edinburgh on 14 August 2021, walking to Westminster in London and back again to raise money for the charity and awareness of people and families without a home who are living on the streets or in temporary accommodation; recognises that Peter, who was formerly homeless, says that the point of the trek was to raise awareness of what it is like to be homeless and rely on the public for help to afford a meal; understands that the number of households in Edinburgh in temporary accommodation increased from 3,570 in March 2020 to 4,431 12 months later, an increase of 24%; encourages everybody who can to visit Peter's fundraising page at uk.gofundme.com/f/k9tzbu-walking-to-freedom and make a donation, and notes that Peter completed the return leg of his journey in a kilt at the Parliament on 9 October.
