That the Parliament congratulates the Neilston War Memorial Association on its continued support and awareness raising of veterans and their stories; further congratulates the charity on its recent event hosting Roy Elwood, who is a Royal Navy veteran, in Neilston to visit the site of a new memorial to the Arctic Convoys, commemorating those lost and celebrating the rescue of Norwegian refugees; understands that Mr Elwood is the last surviving member of HMS Zambesi, which sailed on Operation Open Door during the Second World War as part of a four-ship convoy that sailed behind enemy lines in Norway to rescue over 500 Norwegians from the German-occupied island of Soroya; further understands that Neilston gave refuge to many of those rescued, where they lived out the remaining months of the war at a camp in Kingston Park; acknowledges the strong ties between Neilston and Norway, including a visit in early 2020 from the Mayor of Hasvik, and remembers all who sailed on the Zambesi and other Arctic Convoys and their life saving missions.
