Angus War Memorials Honoured

  • Submitted by: Maurice Golden, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 20 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01273

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Carnoustie War Memorial has been awarded the title of Champion of Champions in the Legion Scotland Best Kept War Memorial Awards; further welcomes the Greystone Carmyllie memorial being named the best Small Memorial With Gardens and the Kirriemuir memorial being named best new entry; understands that cenotaphs in Angus were awarded three of the seven awards given in this centenary year of Legion Scotland; recognises the hard work from volunteers of Legion Scotland and Angus Council gardeners in maintaining these and other memorials; understands the significance of war memorials in Scotland as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of members of the Armed Services from the First World War to the modern day, and believes that, by remembering those who have fallen, people remind themselves of the need to avoid further conflict.
