That the Parliament notes recent media coverage about the tragic death of security guard Ronnie Alexander, who was from Ayrshire, in 2018, who, it understands, died from hypothermia in extreme weather conditions; understands from press reports that he had not been provided with a reliable source of heating or adequate system of communication; acknowledges the publication of the annual statistics for fatal injuries at work in Great Britain during 2020-21 by the Health and Safety Executive; notes with concern the findings that Scotland had the joint highest rate of fatal injuries, alongside Wales, to workers over this period per 100,000 population, with 17 workers in total losing their lives; understands that no cases have been prosecuted in Scotland under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007; notes the view that the basis by which corporate liability can be identified should be broadened to any individual who supervises, manages or organises people on behalf of a corporate entity, and notes calls on the Scottish Government to assess legislative competence relating to corporate homicide with a view to strengthening the law.
