Global Week for Action on Non-Communicable Diseases

  • Submitted by: Stephanie Callaghan, Uddingston and Bellshill, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 09 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01103

That the Parliament recognises that 6 to 12 September 2021 marks the Global Week for Action on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs); notes that this global week seeks to reduce the NCD burden globally, through collaboration across countries and sectors, towards a common goal of reducing preventable death and illness, and increasing health and equity around the world; understands that NCDs, such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, are responsible for around 39,000 deaths every year in Scotland, and considers that public health policies should continue to focus on preventing NCDs, reducing inequalities and supporting a healthier population.
