  • Submitted by: Fulton MacGregor, Coatbridge and Chryston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01076

That the Parliament notes the 62nd anniversary of the Auchengeich mining disaster, which took place on 18 September 1959; understands that the tragedy was Scotland’s worst mining disaster of the 20th century; recognises that 47 men lost their lives, leaving 76 children without their father and 41 women widowed; acknowledges that it had an enduring effect on the community of Moodiesburn and the surrounding areas, and commends the recent collaboration between Miller Homes’ Stoneyetts Village development site team and Duffy & McCann Plastering and Roughcasting, which saw them partnering to complete important repairs to the Auchengeich Mining Disaster Memorial in Moodiesburn.
