Microtech Group Adopts Employee Ownership

  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 06 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01062

That the Parliament notes the announcement by the award-winning IT service specialist, Microtech Group, that it is adopting an employee ownership model by placing 74% of the business’s shares into an employee ownership trust, with the current owner and managing director, Chris McMail, retaining a minority shareholding; understands that Microtech’s 70 Kilmarnock-based employees provide IT support to NHS Scotland and a number of blue chip companies; understands that Chris rejected a number of offers for the company in favour of an employee ownership trust to ensure that the company can continue to be based in Scotland; commends Chris for his approach, which protects jobs and helps to ensure the long-term stability of the business, and wishes him, and all of Microtech’s employees, all the best for the future.
