IncludeM School Experience Report

  • Submitted by: Michael Marra, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 06 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01043

That the Parliament welcomes the research report, The School Experience, by IncludeM, which highlights the experience of schooling during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic; recognises that the research found that home learning negatively impacted on young people’s enjoyment of school and interest in learning during the first phase of lockdown, but that there were improvements in these elements as schools reopened; further recognises that anxiety around the reopening of schools continues to have an impact on young people; believes that the disruption caused by COVID-19 to young people’s education is a challenge unprecedented in its scale and nature and needs robust and ambitious action to address it; believes that the findings of the report should be considered carefully by the Scottish Government and should inform the approach to recovery in education, and considers that the findings are further evidence of the need to adopt the World Health Organization’s principle that schools should be the last to close and first to open.
