Girls’ Education in Afghanistan

  • Submitted by: Michael Marra, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 26 August 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00937

That the Parliament notes with grave concern the situation regarding the future of girls' education in Afghanistan; recognises what it sees as the incredible progress that has been made over the past 20 years in expanding education opportunities from one million to 9.5 million students; believes that all children everywhere should have their right to education fulfilled meaningfully and safely; commends the work that has been done by UNICEF and partner agencies in Afghanistan over the past two decades; believes that the UK Government should push for an extension of aid to these organisations through G7 channels, and calls on the Scottish Government to make representations to this effect.
