Celebrating Merchant Navy Day 2021

  • Submitted by: Donald Cameron, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 26 August 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00932

That the Parliament welcomes and celebrates Merchant Navy Day, which takes place on 3 September 2021; understands that the annual campaign is organised by The Seafarers Charity, which was formerly known as Seafarers UK, and that it honours seafarers who died whilst in Britain’s Merchant Navy during the Second World War, and recognises our continued dependence on the work of seafarers; acknowledges the important work of The Seafarers Charity which, it understands, in 2020 alone, released £2m in funding to support seafarers affected by COVID-19, and local community projects across the UK; encourages local authorities and other public buildings to fly the Red Ensign on 3 September, and thanks the country's seafarers for all that they do.
