Rubbish Paddlers Paddle 352.71km in 31 Days

  • Submitted by: Elena Whitham, Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 03 August 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00803

That the Parliament commends the Rubbish Paddlers, Charlotte Megret and Neil Smith, who are from Maybole, on their amazing achievement of paddle boarding 352.71km in 31 days; notes that they announced their project for the summer in June 2021, which involved travelling from north to south Scotland using only their paddle boards and public transport, while picking up litter and raising awareness of water pollution; understands that they collected 63 bags of rubbish, three bikes, one shopping trolley, one dart board, one skateboard, a kitchen sink, carpet and plenty of other random rubbish from the waterways; further understands that the journey made them reflect on the impact that people are having on the wonderful landscapes, and wishes them all the very best for the future.
