Open Doors Community Hub, Kilmarnock

  • Submitted by: Carol Mochan, South Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 30 July 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00786

That the Parliament commends the crucial work carried out by Open Doors Community Hub in Kilmarnock; understands that Open Doors provides recovery programmes and opportunities for people struggling with addiction, offers foodbank provision for people in need and takes part in regular community "walkabouts" with community police officers to develop an understanding of the real lived experiences of people in the area; understands with concern that, on average, between 2015 and 2019, 0.22 deaths per 1,000 of the population in East Ayrshire were drug related, which is higher than the Scottish average; considers that cooperative working between community police officers, community groups and charities is a positive step towards tackling addiction, and calls on the Scottish Government to do more to support groups, such as Open Doors, that are contributing significantly to Scotland’s response to the drug-deaths crisis.
