Aberdeen Cyrenians, Hug in a Box

  • Submitted by: Audrey Nicoll, Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 13 July 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00667

That the Parliament commends the Hug in a Box initiative, launched by Aberdeen Cyrenians, in partnership with local businesses; understands that the boxes were created with a focus on supporting mental health, and are designed to boost resilience and encourage self-care; notes that all profits from Hug in a Box will go towards giving care and support to anyone who is experiencing homelessness or is at risk of losing their home through poverty, crisis, abuse, mental ill-health or addiction in the North-East; recognises that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact lives in Aberdeen, with Aberdeen Cyrenians seeing a large increase in demand for support services, particularly for mental health; also understands that, alongside Hug in a Box, Aberdeen Cyrenians has launched a new self-care and wellness resource page on its website to help support anyone struggling; notes that local businesses that have contributed to the initiative also benefit from each box purchase, in turn supporting North-East employers; congratulates Aberdeen Cyrenians and participating businesses following the launch of the scheme, and wishes all involved continued success.
