Congratulations to YWCA Scotland - The Young Women's Movement on becoming a 4 Day Week Organisation

  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 09 July 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00634

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement by YWCA Scotland - The Young Women’s Movement that it is to reduce working hours by 20% with no loss of pay to employees or impact on current agreed annual leave allowance; notes that the transition to a Monday to Thursday four-day working week across the organisation seeks to prioritise the wellbeing and mental health of the team, is not a change to compressed full-time hours, and applies to full-time and part-time workers, with some flexibility allowed in accordance with the organisation's flexible working policy; commends YWCA Scotland's commitment to "build back better" from the economic and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to create a workplace where women can thrive; notes that the YWCA Scotland report Status of Young Women in Scotland 2020-2021, revealed that women aged 16 to 30 across Scotland recognise the importance of a healthier work-life balance, and the specific need for flexible working patterns to ensure a more accessible labour market for women at all stages of their careers; congratulates YWCA Scotland on receiving official accreditation from the 4 Day Week Campaign, and looks forward to more employers making the transition to a shorter working week with no detriment to pay and conditions.
