The Discovery Point Transformed Initiative

  • Submitted by: Maurice Golden, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 07 July 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00619

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Discovery Point Transformed initiative from Dundee Heritage has been awarded a £316,000 grant along with a potential delivery grant of £2,555,400 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund; understands the funding will aid the initiative in transforming Discovery Point into a world-class centre for Antarctic heritage that brings together the history of the famous RRS Discovery with climate change and other contemporary scientific issues; notes that the project will cover two phases, which will see a host of new features added, including 360-degree views of the city and the River Tay, a climate change gallery and other new gallery spaces, a redesigned public entrance, environmental improvements and a new waterfront café; further notes that it will see conservation work carried out on the Discovery and the expansion of the museum’s current learning programme to cover new themes and reach wider audiences; believes that this project will be an asset to the city of Dundee and help promote awareness and education in both history and science, and wishes all involved with it every success.
