Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust, Stagecoach Volunteers Award

  • Submitted by: Audrey Nicoll, Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 30 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00566

That the Parliament congratulates the Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust on receiving the Stagecoach Volunteers Award; understands that the award was earned as a result of work to restore the 1906 Ransomes and Rapier locomotive turntable which, after years of disuse, is now back in operation; notes that restoration work received funding from the Railway Heritage Trust, Historic Environment Scotland and the Association for Industrial Archaeology; further understands that the award was given as a plaque to the Trust by the Princess Royal during the 2019 National Railway Heritage Awards at the Merchant Taylor's Hall, London, alongside a cheque for £2,000; welcomes the news that steam-hauled charter trains will be visiting Aberdeen in July, which visitors may view using the turntable, and that the Trust is nearing completion of work to restore the 1850s former engine shed at the Ferryhill site; commends all involved at the Trust for a richly deserved award, and passes on its best wishes for continued success.
