Hat-trick of Prestigious Awards for Edinburgh College

  • Submitted by: Gordon MacDonald, Edinburgh Pentlands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 30 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00556

That the Parliament congratulates Edinburgh College on its success at The Herald Higher Education Awards 2021, topping the awards table with three wins; commends Edinburgh College for winning the Widening Access Award for its work in ensuring care experienced students are given the best possible opportunities to succeed in education through introducing additional support for care experienced students at every stage of their college journey; notes that the college has recently seen an increase in the number of care experienced students undertaking courses and a significant decrease in the percentage of those students withdrawing early; congratulates the Social Services student, Roseanna Campbell, who won the Outstanding Contribution from a College Student category, which celebrates a student who has made an outstanding contribution to their college or wider community; recognises that Roseanna’s win was a reflection of her commitment and dedication to supporting young people across the city who face barriers, particularly those who are care experienced through her voluntary work with the local charity, 6VT, which gives Scotland’s young people a voice, and commends Edinburgh College's collaboration with City of Glasgow College, which was named the winner of the Partnership Award for the two colleges’ innovative joined-up work in delivering the Fast Track into Financial Services course, which is a six-week work-readiness course that is having a transformative impact on the upskilling needs within the financial sector.
